Special Olympics in Logan

TJ had his Basketball Tournament in Logan last weekend. Because I put the team together and not a lot of other parents could make the journey up to Logan, Larry and I took the team in our car. I thought it was best if Ashley and I sat in the very back so the big basketball players had room to move their legs.

I was not prepared to have five Olympians in my car. Ashley looked at me and said "I feel really weird riding with all these boys." I just knew what she was talking about. If it wasn't the continually talking about cars or girls or whatever mumbling came out of there mouths, then it was the constant laughing at each others jokes. But I had to make sure, so I asked her what made her feel so weird. She responded, "I am in a car with a group of perfect people." After I recovered from her answer I said. "So if this ship goes down on the way to Logan, then it is Dad's, mine and your fault?" Pretty much she responded.

We had a great day. The boys played well. This tournament was a coed effort. Three special Olympians and two unified players.

We made it all the way to the gold medal round. The boys and one girl (who has coached them all year) were doing great. The other team comes out on the court and I really thought we had it made. Some of them looked like they came out of a retirement home. They were older than our boys. We started the game and one of their players would get the ball between the three point line and the half court line and shoot. Swish, I just thought that was luck. Next time down, swish. He had about 5-8 of those swishes and needless to say they won the gold. The good thing about special Olympics is everyone wins. You would of thought these boys just won the gold, they thought they were the best players ever when they were awarded the silver. I think Ashley's right. And I think these boys know a secret.

  1. Your whole family is special but that Ashley sure comes up with some good things that make us all stop and think. I wish I had her brain (and her heart.)
