We have officially adopted Ashley now for six years. Yesterday November 12th.
In the past we have always made this a special day for her. We gave her a little gift and let her pick out a place to eat dinner.
Well, yesterday, this Mother Of The Year forgot!!!
I kept wondering why Ashley was so moody. Why she started to cry when I picked her up from dance and threw a bag of Arby's food at her to eat as we hurried off to our next event. Why she came home from Young Women's and went right into her room without talking to anyone.
Does she have PMS??? I decided that was it.
I, also being very grumpy, did not do anything to better the situation.
Larry, however, knocked on her bedroom door at 10:00pm and encouraged her to open the door and let him in to talk.
Ashley, being very sober, just said she wanted to go to the park with her birth siblings and eat Hot Cheetos.
Funny Larry thought and came to tell me. What he saw on my face was not funny as I realized it was November 12th. Her 6th anniversary.
Not much I could do at this point. It was 11:00 at night. But Larry being the awesome father, typed her up a letter and ran to the store to buy Hot Cheetos.
She found it this morning at breakfast. What a great Daddy. Ashley and Larry are understanding the relationship of father/daughter a lot lately.
He truly is a great Dad. And Ashley is a great daughter.
TJ looked at Ashley's Cheetos and looked at us and said. "Where's my Chips"
I looked at him and at Ashley and then said. "TJ, when is your adoption day?"
He said "March 17th"
I said "On March 17th we will get you some chips. Is that OK?"
He said "Yes" and went off to school.
You made me tear up. How sweet. Ashley, I love you and I'm glad you are part of "OUR" family.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, my adoption date is August 25.
Thanks for being patient with your mom, Ashley. One of the first lessons we all learn is that parents are not perfect, but through it all they love us the most. (This is totally referenced to me as a parent - my kids can attest to the non perfect part)
ReplyDeleteLarry is AWESOME!!! I feel bad for not doing anything for Lily on her 1 year mark. I think we'll do something anyway, and she'll never know it wasn't the right day!! Please don't tell her. Ashley is so sweet. This is just another way to show how much she loves being in your family.
